Advising Services

The Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS) is committed to providing quality advising services to international students and scholars in F-1 and J-1 visa status. Our goal is to educate you about U.S. federal regulations affecting your status and to provide you with the resources necessary for you to make well-informed and responsible decisions.

International students can go to the OISS for assistance in many matters including advice on immigration rules and regulations, cultural adjustment, letters of support for governments or banks, and general information.

Employment Authorization Sessions

The OISS offers sessions on a regular basis to assist students with the process of obtaining employment authorization:

Individual Appointments

Students may also make an individual appointment to meet with an advisor if you have questions and/or concerns. To make an appointment with an international student advisor, please call the OISS at 312-362-8376.

Please note that students are assigned an OISS advisor alphabetically by last name.
