Immigration Telephone Scam
We have received reports that some students on OPT are receiving phone calls from individuals posing as U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) officials. The caller then requests personal information such as a passport number and a social security number.  The caller indicates that there is a problem with the student’s immigration record and asks for payment to “fix” the problem. If you receive a call similar to what is described above, simply say “No, thank you” and hang up the phone.  USCIS never asks for any form of payment or personal information over the phone. For more detailed information on the above and information on how to report such scams please visit the USCIS official page here.

If you have further questions and would like to speak with an OISS advisor, please call 312-362-8376.
